Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium

 Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium
The Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium began in 1955 with Dr. Eugenie Clark and his research of sharks. Today they have over 30 Ph.D. scientists on staff, where they conduct research with more than 20 diverse programs. It’s part of the aquarium's mission to find solutions to the ever-present global changes, as well as educate the people of their community about who they share their waters with.

There are so many amazing things to explore at the aquarium. You can take a kayak, or boat tour to see the local wildlife where you end your journey at the aquarium. Once inside, you can have hands-on experience with sharks, sea otters, sea turtles, invertebrates, and more! You can also find a megalodon fossil.

If you’d like a private tour you can book one for morning rounds. In this tour, you get the opportunity to explore Invertebrate Galleries or check out the Marine Mammal Center. They offer an in-house VR experience, too. In these, you’ll feel like you’re swimming with sharks and manatees.

The lab also offers programs for schools and homeschoolers, alike. With each program, you’re provided a Classroom Kit, including the virtual options. As a step towards awareness, they provide autism-friendly sensory guides and offer wheelchairs with access to all amenities.

An adoption kit can be purchased at the aquarium where everyone can receive a personalized certificate, photo, and plush toy of an animal of their choosing. All proceeds go back into the research at the lab.
