Oscar Scherer State Park

 Oscar Scherer State Park
Elsa Scherer Burrows left her family's 460-acre ranch to the state, in honor of her late father Oscar, in 1955. After a year of preparing, the state park opened to the public in 1956 and later acquired the 922 acres adjacent to the property, putting the park at over 2 square miles total.

Inside the, you can find 10 miles of biking trails with the Legacy trail running through the middle, which is a 12-mile paved trail that runs from Venice to Sarasota. There are also 15 miles of hiking trails, split into 7 different trails. Remember to grab a map, pack a hat, sunscreen, water, and bug repellent, as there are no restrooms or shelters along the trails.

Additionally, there are 104 fully equipped campsites with water and electric hookups for tents or RV’s. Included in these are 7 ADA sites. The maximum RV length is 36 feet.

Some of the amenities in the park are geocache sites, fresh and saltwater fishing, canoe, or kayak rentals/tours. A lot of these amenities are located at Lake Osprey, within the park. You have the opportunity to see alligators, otters, and 200 different species of birds. The park is best known for spotting a Florida Scrub-Jay.
