Sarasota Opera House
In 1926 the Sarasota Opera House (formerly known as A.B. Edwards Theater) was released to the public. Walking at the entrance of the Opera House you’ll be greeted by the Mediterranean Revival era-themed room. The extravagant 3-story building contains 8 shops, 12 offices, and 12 apartments. All of the floors face a central atrium. The auditorium, fly tower, and stage take up the rest of this grand structure. The theater itself includes over 320 seats. They have many shows through out the year that play here including operas, plays, and concerts
The Opera House has many programs that encourage the education of the arts for its community. They encourage schools and homeschoolers to come and even provide teaching resources, as well as transportation funding for educators. Schools must have 1 adult for every 10 students. Homeschoolers must have 1 adult for every 4 students. Programs are intended for grades 6 and up. However, they do offer virtual programs for all age groups. Students will have the chance to see singers perform and have a Q&A with the artists.
The House runs the Sarasota Opera Apprentice Artist Program which is a program that focuses on helping student singers enter the professional world. They also host TOWN (Tuesday Opera Women’s Network) Club. This is a group dedicated to supporting the local community of female opera singers.
